SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. – More than 300 elementary school children will converge at Carnifex Ferry State Park on September 17, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to participate in the annual Nicholas County Water Festival.
All of the county’s fifth grade students are scheduled to attend.
Students attending the daylong event will experience firsthand the importance of water for all water users. Young people and educators will participate in a variety of activities designed to promote awareness, knowledge, and stewardship of water resources.
Children will be introduced to different careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields and will engage in hands on activities about topics like conservation, water quality, energy, water safety and the water cycle.
Community support for the Nicholas County Water Festival continues to grow. The event is sponsored by the WV DEP, National Park Service, and Army Corps of Engineers and involves the collaboration of many other state and local organizations and volunteers.
